Derived from a design dating back to , this semi-hollow guitar classic features a hand-carved arch top and back made of premium, charactered maple.

For jangle, clarity, and chime, these pickups have a characteristic responsiveness that is pure Rickenbacker. Designed with fairly low output, they love to be driven hard by tube amps and really sing with a boost pedal or mild overdrive as well, for those occasions when you want a bit more than the percussive and rhythmic cut of a great clean tone. This Ric is very rewarding to play and has a clear acoustic tone that translates well through the pickups, and at only 7lbs, it’s very easy on the back too!

The lacquered fretboard has the iconic crushed pearl triangular fretboard inlays and original fretwire. The frets have been leveled in the past, and while the frets are fairly low, they currently show sparingly little wear and have more height and crown after the octave. The guitar plays cleanly in all registers with no buzzes or dead spots. The lacquer on the fretboard is glossy and completely intact, with no wear through the finish. All of the electronics work as they should, with stock Volume and Tone knobs for each pickup, along with the ingenious 5th knob that functions as a blend control between the two pickups.

Both toaster pickups have strong output and the original CTS pots dating to the 1st week of ’66 , blue molded Ajax tone caps, and wiring are present. While the original markings under the guard indicate that this guitar was slated to be a model with vibrato , Rickenbacker commonly deviated from these markings when the guitars were finished and assembled, and this guitar has clearly never been fitted with anything but the original “R” tailpiece.

Arguably quite a bit less common than the vibrato-equipped Rics from this era, this has a very solid feel and great tuning stability thanks to the trapeze tailpiece. The stock bridge retains its original cover and has an ideal amount of height off the body to provide both low action and the proper break angle for the tailpiece.

The original Fireglo nitro lacquer finish is a very deep and vibrant red with a rich amber center to the burst and no touchups or overspray.

Rickenbacker Rickenbacher vintage guitars history and collecting. Private vintage guitar collector. Pictures, history for Rickenbacker vintage guitars. Contact the Vintage Guitar Info Guy. Rickenbacker was the first company to successfully market electric guitars. The most interesting Rickenbackers are the hollowbody models. In particular, the to pre-June models with the old style squared edge body shape, “stove” or “TV” knobs, and gold pickguard are the most interesting to me personally.

The marketplace has a different idea though – The newer and later hollowbody models with checked binding and sparkle fingerboard inlays are collectible, because of their association with the Beatles, Byrds, and other ‘s super groups though personally I don’t really enjoy these newer models. The “export” models are also collectible. For the most part, solidbody Rickenbacker guitars are pretty low on the social guitar ladder.

They don’t really have a “sound”, and haven’t played a big part in electric musically history.
